Reminiscences of my life and times in Australia [manuscript]. [1877-1878]

The volume is a proof copy of a portion (p. 1-192) of John Dunmore Lang's autobiography written in 1877, the year before his death. This section, together with other parts of the autobiography, were published as 'Reminiscences of my life and times both in the church and state in Australia for upwards of fifty years', edited and with an introduction and notes by D.W.B. Baker (Melbourne, Heinemann, 1972). This proof copy corresponds to p. 20-173 of Baker's book and contains handwritten corrections and annotations by John Dunmore Lang (eg p. 6, 164) and his wife, Wilhelmina Lang (eg p. 19, 28, 42). The front cover is inscribed 'Folio 1 to 192 of Dr Lang's Work'. The volume is inscribed 'To Mifs Sophia Lyre, With Love, from Wilhelmina Dunmore Lang, Widow of Author, Sydney 9th November'

Lang was born in Scotland, received his MA (1820) at Glasgow University and arrived in Australia in 1823. He established the first Presbyterian Church in Australia (Scots Church, opened 1826) and was a member of the Council and Legislative Assembly (1859).
